As was previously rumored, Huawei have just officially unveiled the Ideos, their first smartphone to come with Android 2.2 preinstalled. Some live pics of the device are already available, along with an official promotional video.

The Ideos is not a high end device by any stretch of the imagination, but aims to cater to the low end of the smartphone market, where not many Android-powered offerings have gone before. In fact, there are only two non-carrier branded phones that have similar specs out there, the HTC Wildfire and the ZTE Racer. The Wildfire however is priced more like a midrange device, which leaves the Racer to be the Ideos’ main competitor for the foreseeable future.

And the specs of the two devices are, not surprisingly, very similar.

Here are the main features of the Ideos:

runs Android 2.2 and is a “with Google” phone – no custom UI overlays or any such nonsense present, guaranteed updates to new versions of the OS as soon as Google releases them comes with all the benefits of Android 2.2: storing apps on the microSD card, 3G WiFi hotspot for up to 8 devices, and Adobe Flash support in the browser 2.8″ 240×320 touchscreen 528 MHz processor HSDPA, WiFi 802.11n, GPS, Bluetooth 3.2 MP autofocus camera, no flash

The Huawei Ideos will be available within a week in some markets, and will cost $100-$200, depending on market. It will come in four colors: yellow, blue, black and purple.

Here’s the official promo video:

Competition in the low-end smartphone space is definitely heating up, and the ZTE Racer will face the first similarly specced Android competitor in a  very short while. This should be an interesting battle to watch.
