Ebooks: Reader Sales Fall Short and New Models Coming

ebook-readers Times were harder for ebook readers in Q2 than we had thought, and Digitimes has some interesting numbers concerning sales today.

In the second quarter of 2010 1.35 million e-book readers were shipped worldwide. Sounds pretty good for a niche product doesn’t it? However,  2.02 million units had been expected to be shipped so the reality fell short by about a third. This could be due to pressure from the iPad and anticipation of more tablets to ship in the next few months, however Digitimes chalks it up at least partially to the fact that NEW MODELS which they had thought would ship in Q2 had been delayed to Q3.

New models? Well we know that there is the new WiFi only Nook but that has already gone out to buyers…so what new models can Digitimes be referring to?
